'Michelle .... my Belle'

If I'd remembered my camera last Tuesday night this would have been a very different post.

Entering the Printworks on the way to the Odeon I was met by crash barriers, a long red carpet and a barrage of paparazzi.
Apparently a Coronation Street DVD was being launched and the cast (plus Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen) were all there looking extremely glamorous.

But we were here to see Oliver Stone's "W" (free tickets for an election night preview) which was too long, too wordy and strangely irrelevant.

Then we went home to watch the election results.

On Wednesday morning I was fascinated to read your feelings about Obama's victory in blog after blog.

For many of us it brought back memories of this -

But - unlike Obama -Tory Bliar was never committed to left wing (or any) politics. He was committed to his own version of Christianity. His only concession to the left was to appoint John Prescott to be his deputy.

In Manchester on Wednesday afternoon, I thought that the black / mixed race people on the street were holding their heads up a little higher and exuding a new air of confidence.

Possibly my imagination - but I hope not.

So a black man will soon be the most powerful man in the world. But don't forget we will also have a black First Lady. And what a classy, articulate, intelligent and beautiful role model she will be.

In 1979 some feminists suggested that we should ignore Thatcher's politics and vote for her in the spirit of sisterhood. I considered that for all of 0.000002 milliseconds.

But I like the look of Michelle.

I didn't hear many feminists suggesting women should be voting for Sarah Palin.

Perhaps I wasn't listening.

I find it hard, these days, to hear high-pitched whining.

I like the look of Michelle Obama.

Cherie Blair, not so much.

What an ugly cow.

I like the look of Michelle, she can endorse my candidacy any day.

You'd better stay under the desk - or you'll hear some high pitched shouting.

Scarlet:
Ditto again.

Pete:
I just finished reading Cherie's autobiography - naked ambition on legs.

Vicus:
Congratulations on making the word *candidacy* sound smutty.
But - one look at your lovely photo and I'm sure she'd oblige.

Well it does mean 'to free from Bondage'....and look you've encouraged Dave now.

Dave:
Whatever Vicus's chads are doing - I'd rather not know.

Who in their right mind is going to buy that dvd? A slash horror movie in which Auntie Pam gets her comeuppance, maybe. Or a steamy erotic movie with Gail and her new fella!

I'll give Barack and Michelle a chance. I always expect the worst when it comes to politicians. When I see the pictures of the Obamas and the Camerons in a jacuzzi together in a few years I'll know that all hope is lost.

"(plus Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen)"

surely the poor man demands some further attention KAZ!

let's hope that Michelle has more to do in TWH than think about decor and her wardrobe. . .

. . .perhaps in a few years to come she'll be doing a Hillary

I truely hope she wasn't naked in the book.

What does she have to say?

It's a start. The poor guy is going to have a hard time changing Washington's sewer full of lobbyist rats.

Had the marketplace NOT imploded my guess is that McCain & Caribou Barbie would have squeaked by. The South, Middle America, and older voters all picked the Republican candidates.

It would be nice if Obama could eviscerate the old-boys-network within the first few months..but it will prolly take his enitre first term.

Michele seems like the real deal. I suspect that she will be more than just window dressing. She also has one of the best smiles that I ever seen.
I wish them luck.

Michelle (and her hubbie) indeed looks promising.

However, haybe having being been burnt once (by Tone and Chez) I find my optimism twinged with apprehension...a shame.

And why did you consider Thatcher for so long? ;)

Michelle looks like the kind of elegant lady who has a thousand social graces at her disposal, but could also, if prompted, deliver a resounding right hook to silence disturbers of the peace. The White House has needed someone like this for a looong time.

...does she have a copy of the Corrie DVD, I wonder?

I expect the worst as well - but not as worst as you do.

That picture of the Obamas and Camerons in the jacussi could only be worse if Gail and her fella jumped in there as well.

Yikes!

View:
I wondered what the lovely Lawrence was doing slumming it in Manchester with the soaps.

I'd love to see her doing a Hillary and winning...(Palin v Michelle in 2012?)

View:
It's Hillary - I checked.

Pete:
No - not even scantily clad.
She certainly was poor as a girl, but intelligence, energy and ambition drove her on.
Obviously she didn't want Tony to give up the top job. She liked the power too much.

Mr C.
Perhaps he will fail honourably.

She is certainly the real deal - and have you seen those firm upper arms? Her background is similar to Cherie Blair. But I feel Michelle will stay in touch with her roots.

NiC:
As well as Cherie Blair's book, I've read Obama's.
Somehow - the difference in style and tone makes me feel the similarity isn't that strong (fingers crossed).

Because I was a very committed feminist:)

Boz:
See above re those toned upper arms.
Eat your heart out Madonna.

The DVD is called 'Out of Africa' - just like Barack.

A "a classy, articulate, intelligent and beautiful" first lady. Nothing at all like Maggie Thatcher thank God. My only regret is that she doesn't look like Chakka Khan. I don't know why but I feel that would make everything perfect.

Blogger CyberPete said...

so Cherie is a power whore? Tee-heee!

What did/does she do for a living?

8:42 pm
Blogger KAZ said...

mj:
You would have been far too classy for this scene babe!

Steve:
Chakka Khan??
Steve - are you eccentric or just plain weird?

Pete:
She is a big shot barrister who specialises in employment and human rights.
The woman has my respect if not my affection.

And she does loads for charidee.
Makes me sick just thinking of it.

Steve:
I think weird you'd be stuck with - eccentric can be cultivated or not according to choice.

Blair sucked us all in, Kaz. I just wish John Smith had lived a bit longer, he would have been a great PM.

Pete:
She had helpers to bring up her kids and a group of advisers for hair, clothes and massage!

Murph:
Aaaaah!
Will it be a labrador cross?
This proves my point about Cherie - she writes in her book that she doesn't like animals and doesn't give a damn about foxes being hunted.

sss:
Ah yes - John Smith - if only he'd been given a chance.
Apparently he could drink anyone under the table and be up bright and early for work on the following morning.

Can bass 1:
Can you be a bit more specific please?

She needs to fire the hair and wardrobe advisers. Right.now.

I felt overwhelmed with happiness when the Tories were booted about, which was foolish of course because politicians always let you down ... especially the ones with freeloading wives who believe in new age crap ... I certainly hope Michelle isn't like that.

I was happy that Obama won, but it's more from a sense of relief than anything. He can never live up to the expectations heaped on him - which means that there'll be a backlash along within weeks of him being in the Whitehouse.

Blogger tom909 said...

Oh my, this is all a bit depressing isn't it. I so hope it does work out in some way. But the track record is not good.
I think maybe the masses do realise to an extent that no matter how good a guy you are, it's not easy to get things done.
Good Luck to them both I say.

Blogger KAZ said...

Pete:
She won't need them now - in her barrister's gown and wig.

Betty:
I was also happy - until I realised that Tony was a Tory.
I think Obama will stick to his principles - because at least he has some.

Tom:
Good point about the masses.
You have to wonder why people take on such a burden - responsibilty for the hopes and dreams of millions.
