I possibly spend more time reading the Radio Times than watching the television. I just like to know what I'm missing.
Alison Graham is one contributor who makes sense - I agree that we can well manage without another series of Heartbeat - I thought it ended years ago.
However she then goes on to compare it with Battenburg - too sweet and soon forgotten.
You can go off people.
So - In the absence of my energy - have fun choosing your favourite cake. Add one of your choice if you wish
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
Victoria sponge
Carrot cake
Bakewell Tart
Custard Tart
Custard (vanilla) slice
Chocolate cake
Tunnocks Tea cake
KAZ

All this cake is going to give MJ a conniption fit!
PS: Victoria Sponge, please.
CAKE!CAKE!CAKE!CAKE!CAKE!
CAKE!CAKE!CAKE!CAKE!CAKE!
You see it was chocolate all the way until I saw the Tunnock's. I have sacrficed whole packets of them on the altar of my greed.
Good to hear from you. Sending all best wishes.
Good grief, I'm drooling...
I like a bit of cheese cake with a digestive biscuit base.
Sx
Yay KAZ! A cake fest for a Friday afternoon. I gather it stopped raining a couple of times last week... it would turn anyone to sweet confections.
I'm torn between the Carrot Cake (which doesn't taste of Carrot) and the Battenburg (which doesn't tast of Mountains).
PS Is Scarlet being rude?
Too late... MJ found it.
I will have a slice of Chocolate please...
and one for my invisible friend.
If I was going to be rude, Rog, I would have gobbled on a chocolate eclair.
Sx
we'll be feasting on wedding cake on sunday, sugar! damn, i do hope it's chocolate! xoxoxoxo
(so, is mj excited about the cakes????)
(snickering like a 10 yr old girl)
"Add one of your choice if you wish" - nah, that lot should keep me going for a while thanks.
Strawberry shortcake.....
Toasted tea-cake please. Dripping with butter.
I like cherrys and marzipan, so ...
it does not need to be a "Torte", a "Kuchen" does the trick.
Can Bannofee Pie be classed as cake? because I could swim in that and eat as I swim. If it doesn't count, then a French Fancy would be my second choice. Anything Mr. Kipling gets up to is fine by me.
Bakewell Tart for me. And if she's not available I'll have to make do with a fig roll.
I used to wolf down my mum's simnel cake and I must admit her rock cakes went down a treat, too. And then there was my nan's seed cake. There are just too many to choose from.
And Madeira!
Oh God...I've just had dinner...
i feel terribly hungry all of a sudden
If I asked for a crumpet, would Rog reckon I was rude?
And I see you poor sods are also getting another round of that fatuous Heartbeat.
Cheers, m'dear
I don't have much of a sweet tooth and can easily do without cake.
Mind you, a vanilla slice...
Carrot Cake every time. My favourite. Though my gran made the bestest bakewell tart ever.
Cakefest, perfect start to a weekend.
Cakes without eggs please. And without nuts (including the almonds used to make that abomination "marzipan"). And carrot is a vegetable. You don't put vegetables in a cake. Don't be so damned silly.
Crumbs! I hungry !XXXXX
God you have to get in here fast - especially when there's cake around.
Rog is going to have a hard time pushing his cucumber boats now..
Come on, haven't we all heard the euphemism "pushing the cucumber boat" before?!!
conniption?
yes CAKE!
always loved Tunnocks
New York vanilla cheesecake - should have been on
the list
carrot cake needs a soft moist sweet filling
choc cake isn't one of my faves these days
snickering savannah
with cream?
is that technically a cake? sounds delicious.
mmmmmmmmmmmarzipan
we agree on most things but not cake.
love rock cakes with lashings of butter.
cake or wine?
Always room for cake.
Tuck in - indulge yourself
Crumpet is not cake m'dear
Vanilla slices are supreme
I suspect you like ALL cake Roses
we need the recipe
tuck in
Rog has some funny ideas.
no
What no Wagon Wheels?
OK, if I can't have crumpet I'll have my own recipe ginger cake.
My mother used to bake dry boring coconut cake, dry boring cherry cake and dry boring chocolate cake (which didn't have any chocolate flavour) in strict rotation every week. So I've never really taken to cakes.
A vanilla slice though ...
Marmalade cake, made to my Mum's recipe. She used to make an amazing bread pudding too - it'd weigh you down for days.
Not really a very valet person but that chocolate one loks rather good. Afterwards a slice or two of a moist Ginger cake perhaps?
Valet person? What? I'm sure I wrote cakey person.....stoopid spellchecker. Having said that I'm not much of a valet person either.
carrot and/or bakewell please ...
or a slime crease is always nice :)
xxx
Lots of cake. That's what I want. But it would have to be an ice-cream cake. Best of both worlds.
It's a biscuit Barry
That's more like it!
I'd hate to see your mum's vanilla slice.
hello again Stitch. Marmalade is always tops with me.
valet? butler?
Is it?
N0
that is so wrong
Hello Kaz!
I like the look of those vanilla slices, which is odd given that I don't like vanilla slices.
I'll have the chocolate cake please. I don't eat cake that often, but I do like chocolate.
I'm sorry but just because cake in the name doesn't let Tunnocks Tea cakes through.
Also, I'd want to look seriously at a Custard (vanilla) slice's credentials before letting in as a cake.
Yours
The Dormouse
This is all leading to a Jaffa Cake style discussion, isn't it?
Sx
Stollen at Christmas (or any other time but it only seems to be about at Christmas)
Yums...
yes very strange. give em another try
Hmm not clear cut is it.
But what else would a vanilla slice be?
I follow your drift
Scarls
Just let's eat it instead.
Must try some. Is it marzipan?
There exists a Stollen variation with a small amount of marzipan, but I have no idea whether it is close to the original. They put all kinds of citronat and such things in.
Kaz, I used to read the Radio Times from cover to cover every week but sadly hardly ever remember to buy it now as there is so little on TV of interest to me any more. In addition I used to love reading the cast lists for the programmes I enjoyed which got smaller and smaller as they squashed all the columns together. Glad to hear you're still keeping the RT going though - it would be a shame to see it disappear. Hope you're keeping up the strength to make short work of those Battenburgs! Lxx
Battenburg is lovely (got a thing for marzipan) or a piece of black forest so long as it doesn't have nuts in - the wife has a thing now for egg custards (from Greggs)- I get RT on subscription but don't read it as much as I did so I've cancelled the standing order - when the sub runs out will get TV extra (only 49p)
Y'know the great thing about internet cake is the calories are zero.. and you can have the lot
Hope you're getting enough real cake back on planet earth though.
A sunny Sunday evening in Franconia, windy and the light has a small tint. It's not yet autumn, but not full summer anymore. Tomorrow I will have Käsekuchen, custard cake.
When I have written 10,000 words [not here - it would be rude to fill up your comment box with 10,000 words] I am going to buy myself an expensive cake [the whole thing - not just a slice] from Waitrose or M&S. This thought is keeping me going.
Sx
Happy Monday Kaz.
I'm not up to cake this morning.
How about hot, buttered toast with marmalade?
Just eating a slice of bakewell with my afternoon tea (Earl Grey) and thinking of you.
Good morning! (my time)Good evening in your zone.
Gloriette cheesecake was rather yummy.Don't suppose they're still in business?
Hello my darling.
Just checking how you're doing.
I thought I'd deliver my cousin's bakewell tart. Not as good as my gran's, but there you go.
*whips through on roller skates and nicks Rose's cousin's Bakewell tart*
Sx
Just thought I would pop in and check out the cakes.
I'm stuffed full with this lot xxx
Is spamming the Chinese national sport or something?
Awite Kaz? I've left the one remaining Tunnock in this 6 pack...
Shit! That's the dog chasing after Scarlet on ther skates.... TOLD her not to wear the bunny ears....
But the bommel on her bum looks very nice!
...and it's natural!
Hiya Kaz!!!
Marie A.of France once dismissed the mob of starving peasants and said "Let them eat cake". Little did she know that her head would roll for such insensitivity.
An Englysche fellow by the name of John Heywood wrote, "wolde you bothe eate your cake, and have your cake?"
Heywood's idiomatic proverb is another wonderful example of our natural predeliction to existing in a constant state of cognitive dissonance...that uncomfortable feeling caused by holding conflicting ideas simultaneously.
Since cake seems to be so much trouble I decided to be a "Pie" guy. I've always expected to have an inexhaustable supply of pie, and eat it too. I don't think that's too much to ask for, do you?
:)
I had cognitive dissonance in my bicycle recently. A little WD40 soon had things sorted...
Are you fed up of us yet, Kaz? Not that we're going away. Oh no! We're going to keep popping in and scoffing the cakes.
Could do with summat to wash them down though.
You touched it, Kevin Musgrove?
I'll have you know that my bommel is a protected species. It also featured in a BBC documentary.
Sx
P.S Kev has touched things that have only been grazed before.
How to make a Bommel, aka Puschel. It needs to be fluffy!
Is there any cake left?
Yo! Scarlet!! Do tell!
It's OK. I bet Kaz hasn't heard the full story yet either...
As long as it doesn't involve any cognitive dissonance or whatever.
Macy: I haven't heard the full story yet either! But I do know that the Playboy Club doesn't issue ginger bommels.
I'll fight anyone who says there's a better cake than Mrs Pig Farmer's rhubarb crumble sponge.
Hi Kaz, I learnt about a new cake today. It's called Red Velvet. It sounds like horse in the two thirty but it is in fact a yummy chocolate number.
I can supply Bolly for washing down.
Hello sweetie!
Hey gorgeous lady. How're you doing?
Kerrie has Bolly! YAY!
OH, excuse me - Ishuld (Bolly-typo, that!)
I should have said "hello, Kaz" first.
Not being much of a cake eater I'm about to have some steamed Basmati rice with a salad. But you chaps go on fighting over the Tunnocks.
Oo! Just noticed a glaring error - no Pontefract Cakes yet!
Hi Kaz, have just come back from over there and ate fresh figs just for you! Thought about you and how you're doing every time I ate one of the horrible things!
XXXX
Hiya Kaz, just a flyby to say hi and am thinking of you. Lxx
Jamaica ginger cake, with butter. The Tunnock is not a cake, nor is the Jaffa interploper. Any fule no this.
Can we throw a party for your birthday, Kaz? We could have cake!
Good thinking Dinah. And Crumble.
Hello lovely. Just popping in to say hi.
No cake recently, but a very nice biscuit this afternoon. Crispy and crumbly with a fruit filling. Yum.
Hey Kaz what up?
xx oo
Hi Kaz! Hope you are O.K.
I must tell Dinahmow, Pontefract cakes are an abomination. Don't touch them Kaz, they are the work of the devil for sure.
I like cheese cake a lot, but I'm a custard tart myself. All the way!
Hello my Dear - KAZ, Pete, I mean KAZ!
The Poet Lauraeate sent me over here - she didn't warn me there'd be CAKE!
I went to Raffles Hotel in Singapore fro afternoon tea once. Buffet (dangerous). After the savoury pastries and sandwiches I had eleven cakes! Couldn't move!
Pick one? ONE? Oh, carrot cake I suppose, but all time favourite is missing - lemon tart! Also M&S chocolate coated meringues.
Oh, just leave me the leftovers, I'll struggle through!
Hello Kaz. Found this blog and thought of you:
http://doorsintothepast.blogspot.com/
Hi Kaz,
Thinking of you.
SSS xx
I'm on holiday and it's raining.
Time to battenburg down the hatches!
No news there Geoff.
Hallo Kaz, busy facebooking and twittering?
More baking??
Sx
Hi Kaz - I see this week's Radio Times is featuring Mad Men. Too bad they didn'tput our favourite Don Draper on the cover hey??
are you watching the footie Kaz - we're winning I'm afraid but Everton are coming second!
I made a pathetic attempt to answer you all but I just can't find the energy. I seem to sleep most of the time.
But I love reading your comments. I'll do a post soon using some of my picture collection.
Betcha can't wait
Rrright - I press my nose against the screen! :)
Yey!!
Sx
Goodie. It was Battenberg for tea at the last match of the season yesterday.
Yay! Don't worry about us Kaz - we'll just keep scoffing the cakes, talking amongst ourselves and saying nice things about you!
*mumbles through a mouthful*
We're supposed to say nice things Macy?
Damn.
Okay. I brought more battenburg and some shortbread...I love shortbread. Would anyone like some? No....oh well, will have to eat the lot then.
I bought some shortbread yesterday, in case I get any visitors this week (it's my birthday on wednesday). Don't think I will, so will probably eat it all myself.
Kaz only because of you do I accept a draw!
Xxx
There is a rumour that a woman in Stalybridge has found the image of the spud-faced nipper in a fruit cake she was having for Sunday tea. Many see this as a sign or portent prior to the Pope's visit next week.
Will she sell it on ebay?
I wonder how much the Pope would go for on eBay?
Is Anonymous the Pope?
Sx
Weird... where did Anonymous go? Ignore me. I have eaten far too much Mushroom sponge and Bisto gravy...
Sx
I'll come back when the papal people desist...
Big-but-gentle-hugs to you, Kaz.
Pope's in Edinburgh, causing traffic chaos all day tomorrow. I know, because he's taking the same route I do to work..
Where's DON DRAPER? that's what I want to know...
Kaz?
I baked an apple pie today! First times for years!(If The Man doesn't eat it all I'll send you a slice.)
I've been up the Dorset Cliffs with a Blackberry today.
Oz sends his best by the way.
I can affirm you that Bacchus is worth it.

Hi Kaz, missing you and your Battenburg. My cosmic Kitty also sends love and wonders what other food you might have in?
Magic mushrooms, Kerrie?

I think I'll need magic mushrooms to decipher that bunch of Cyrillic. Damn spammers.
Have you seen Ms Boxer's cake fest? Om nom nom.
Thinking of you my dear. xxxx
It's a vodka ad. What else ...
A quick Postcard from Dorset Kaz.
Spooky! Don Draper's on the front cover of the Observer Magazine!
Hope you got a copy.
Nice bit of alternative therapy for you!
Best wishes
X
Happy Monday honey.
Just thought the cake supplies looked a bit low, so brought some more battenburg round. It's from M&S so it's well posh.
Thinking of you my dear.
xxx
Come and see Murakami at Versailles.
Hello! (waves madly)
love and peace
The marzipan is starting to curl up at the edges - pop it in the Tupper chuck.
I saw that Bakewell Tart on the telly the other evening.
