POSH Night Out

Eileen hit the big *six oh* on Friday - so we were in town for some serious senior binge drinking.

She said we were 'going posh' so I made the effort.

Time to wear my new cream suede docs, the skinny white trousers from Primark and my chic River Island mac.

But when we met up I saw it was 'frocks r us' so I felt I had let the side down.

I observed that Lesley looked like Miranda Richardson as Queen Elizabeth the first.

She replied that I looked like Baldrick - which wasn't really very nice was it?

Anyway, 'posh' turned out to be the 'Free Trade Hall'.
That was where we went to the NUT strike rallies, to watch the Ali band or see early gigs by the fabulous Buzzcocks.

However, like most of the famous old Manchester buildings, it is now a posh hotel and bar ( The Radisson Edwardian Manchester Hotel). Leanne and Carla were drinking in there on last night's Corrie.

Later we ate at a Portuguese restaurant. It got a poor review in 'The Observer' but we thought it was OK.

I look for signs in my mates.

Eileen is getting seriously forgetful.
Lesley keeps saying 'my husband and I'.
The other two are fine but getting broader by the day and I fear the 'leg at each corner' syndrome is not far away.

Strange 'cos Norma ran the Manchester 10k on 18th May.

I thought I was looking good in comparison.........
...until I downloaded the photos
.

Queenie was bwillianttt!

You could always go on to a more serious Baldrick role presenting Time Team ("badly dressed people looking at dirt").

Anyway 60 is the new 30 I'm hearing from Mr P. moore and more...

Anyone who saw early Buzzcocks' gigs gets my respect.

Doesn't Miranda Richardson look uncannily like Fiz from The Street in that picture? Well, Fiz in the "oh, Kirk-eh" days rather than the newly spruced up "oh, John" Fiz.

Btw Kaz, Llewtrah has pointed this article which is very funny, particularly when you click the pink "Chuch E. Chuck" graphic.

As Betty says, anyone who saw the early Buzzcocks gets respect.

Mrs.Planarchy (who's actually called Ms. Maiden-Name) claimed she mised punk becuase she lived in Manchester at the time. I cite the Buzzcocks to counter this. She has no answer.

Cool Docs!

View:
My mum used it to refer to my Auntie Edith who sat in the armchair with a 'leg at each corner'.
Presumably you need a broad behind.

Murph:
Glad to see that Mr P is letting you on t'internet in the mornings.
I also read that Tony Robinson likes getting his kit off completely - let's not go there.

I'll settle for the new 45!

Betty:
Have you ever fallen ......etc. is one of my faves of all time.

True, but Lesley bears an uncanny resemblance to Rita these days.
I was letting her off lightly with Queenie.

Murph:
What a nightmare - I could stand losing a few annoying real friends.
But my blogging friends are way too important to me.

Nic:Thanks for sticking up for Manchester.
Do you think Docs are an endangered species - like me?

Yeah, I bet you were one of the 50,000 at the Pistols' gig at the Free Trade Hall, snogging the face off Mick Hucknall. (I wondered where it went).

I saw Richard Thompson there but don't tell Murph or he'll get jealous.

Did you see Leanne? Or should I say "Rachel"?

I'm lifting that Ladies Night sign from you. It has my name on it. Thanks!

And Betty? Who is John? What's happened to Kirk-eh? Remember, I'm 9 months behind you in Corrie episodes. Now I must know.

I'd like that stiff one now.

Never, ever look at the photos. Never take the photos. Leave the camera at home. This is my mantra before leaving for a night out and it works because I begin and end the evening looking gorgeous. Funny that.

You have only my word for that kiddo!

Pete:
But you've seen one Pete.
Don't you like the docs?

Geoff:
Puleese - I was snogging the face off Tony Wilson.

No - but I did see the real life Leanne in M&S coffee bar recently with mum and kid. Quite endearing to see her mingling with the crowd. Can't be easy when everyone's staring.

mj:
It's all yours dearest.

9 months behind? I thought it was nearer 9 hours.

Arabella:
The little camera was my Christmas present and the novelty hasn't worn off yet.
I'm the annoying git who e mails all the photos around the next morning.

Leg at each corner....funny as f***! It always make me think of those drawings done by young children where the ladies have triangular bodies with the obligatory leg at each corner.

Cool docs.
And I bet your feet were still functioning at the end of the evening, unlike those in the high-heeled, peep-toed instruments of torture the others were wearing.

liits:
That's much nicer than Auntie Edith. Shoot me if I ever get there.

Stitch:
Glad you like them.

I used to wear heels to make me taller, but I can't be arsed now.

I could docs with frocks like Lily Allen.

True - they look nearly as big as a Girl Aloud.
But I assure you that they are a diminutive size 3.
